What is a Vape Pen?
A vape pen (also known as a vaporizer pen) is a popular type of e-cigarette that closely resembles the slim style of a real cigarette. The slim and lightweight features make them the best discreet vaping device, and are favoured by those looking to quit smoking or try e-cigs for the first time. They contain a small rechargeable battery, and can use a range of different e-liquids. They are also great for a regular vaper to have as a secondary kit, where the bulky nature of an advanced kit may not be appropriate.
What types of vape pens are there?
Whether you want to stop smoking or you fancy making videos of yourself doing tricks, there are types of vape pens to suit all needs. We have gone into a little more depth on the range available and the top-ranked picks for this year, in our guide below:
How do vape pens work?
To put it simply, vape pens work by heating the e-liquid which contains flavourings, VG, PG and sometimes nicotine. This creates a vapor that can be inhaled. A vape pen will either be draw or button activated, this just means that you will either take a draw to heat the liquid and get the vapour or push a button.
Vape pens don’t burn tobacco like cigarettes, but they still offer a nicotine dose.
How long do vape pens last?
How long a vape pen lasts will depend on the size of the battery. You can find vape pens with battery sizes anywhere from 500mAH to 3000mAh and beyond! If you want your pen to be able to go long periods between charges then opt for the higher mAh and use a low wattage setting if you have the option to.
The length of time the vape pen lasts will depend on your vaping style too and how much you vape, so keep that in mind.
How much do vape pens cost?
The price of vape pens will vary depending on different brands and battery sizes. Some are very basic and will likely be cheaper than those with lots of bells and whistles such as adjustable power and airflow.
You will likely find vape pens that come with deals set up for newbie vapers. You might find free eliquids with certain vape pens as well as free shipping. Look out for deals that can make buying a vape pen cheaper.
How to use a vape pen
It is simple to use a vape pen, which is why they often appeal to starters. You simply press the fire button and inhale on the mouthpiece. You then draw the vapor into your mouth then lungs. This is what we call MTL or mouth to lung vaping.
More advanced vape pens such as the SMOK Stick have a direct to lung (DTL) inhale. With this type of inhale you draw the vapor directly into the lungs. This isn’t as ideal for beginners as it doesn’t replicate smoking in the same way as an MTL draw does.
When you have finished using your vape pen, click the fire button five times to turn it off. This helps to prevent it from going off in your pocket or bag.

Why are vape pens popular?
Vape pens are a popular choice for many reasons. For one, they are super easy to use. This suits someone who isn’t looking for lots of tech, they just want to quit smoking and enjoy a decent vape.
Furthermore, vape pens are well within budget for pretty much any user. While they vary in price, they don’t tend to cost as much as a big vape mod with all the bells and whistles.
Vape pens are also portable. They won’t bulk out your pocket or weigh down your bag. This type of device is discreet too and more often than not, despite a few exceptions, won’t produce too much vapour.
